Stay A Little While

Often I hear the Lord say, stay a little while. Is he asking you to ‘stay a little while’? Do you take your prayers to God and just drop them off. How about your praises? Do you just drop them off too? My daughter recently stopped by unexpectedly to drop off a manual for me. I asked her if she was coming in. Her answer was no, she was running late for another errand. I would have liked her to “stay a little while”. But it’s a busy world we live in today.
In Rev 3:20 Jesus said, Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. NIV
The NLT Bible reads; If you hear me calling and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal as friends.
When you meet with a friend to have a meal together, normally you wouldn’t be in a hurry and rush off right away. You’d take time to hold a conversation and just enjoy each other’s company. That is what God expects us to do when we come to meet with him.
Deborah Oxendine in her book, Come Sup with Me, speaks of a vision God gave her. She saw a table stretched out across heaven, “with no end in sight” as she put it. It was covered in a brilliant, sparking white tablecloth. She saw Jesus taking his place at the head of the table. He said this is the table I told you I would prepare for you in the presence of your enemies. She was told a royal banquet was on the table, but all she could see was the brilliant white tablecloth. Jesus said, It can only be seen with the eyes of your spirit….It’s all here, everything you could ever want or need … It’s all here: healing, deliverance, grace, finances, strength…everything is waiting for you…All you have to do is sit down and partake of it.
He went on to explain to her that people come in and out to drop off their prayers and praises but don’t bother to stay. If they would, they could take their needs and their requests right off the table, just like you do in a restaurant when you take food home in a container. They wouldn’t have to wait for an answer because they could take what they needed with them.
When, oh when, will we fully understand the love God has for us? Are you too busy to stay a little while? He is the one who will meet all your needs and the one who will surround you with all his love. He longs for your presence. You are free to go and dine with him. He invites you to come. Will you?
