Warning About Preparing For His Coming
by Molly Wingard
Joy In The Lord Ministries - Redfield, AR

Luke 12:35-48 (KJV) "Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately. Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them. And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants. And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through. Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not. then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all? And the Lord said, Who then is faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath, But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayed his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes, For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask more."

If we are truly children of God then He is our Master and we are His servants. We are to be servants who are to do him honour, attending to and waiting on Him. We need to wait with expectation of the Lord’s return.

Jesus told us that he would have to leave this world, because He was going to prepare a place for us and that He would return to us. God is not trapping or tricking us about His return. The Master’s return is uncertain, and so is the timing our death.

Those of us who are Children of God need to be ready to speak with others about our Heavenly Father. Praise and worship should be flowing out of us about how wonderful, amazing and merciful our Father is.

When we are preparing for a celebration, birth of a child, new job or a new home; we give it our full attention. Do you give your full attention on the return of Christ? This is the most important event that will ever occur. If we are truly Children of God, we need to study the Word and live by the directions that God gave to us.

God expects His children to be ready immediately when He returns to earth. God expects to find us, His servants, in good posture with our loins girded, to be ready to go wherever He may send us.

Blessed are the servants who have waited long and continue to wait for the hour of the Lord’s return and be found awake and aware of His coming. Children of God are to be ready for Christ's return and not to be fearful, worried, greedy, lazy, or hypocritical. Believers should be ready to witness, be trusting, generous, diligent, and sincere. If we keep our life focused on God we will have a joyful reunion when He returns.

Jesus has given us a instruction manual to follow. We need to watch, wait, and obey His commands.

The more resources, understanding, and talents we have, the more we are required to use them effectively. We have all been given duties and gifts to keep us busy until His return.

Acts 1:4 (KJV) And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. We need to learn how to wait on God. Don’t go ahead of God, stop and wait for His permission to go forward.

King David knew what it meant to wait for God’s permission. David had to wait before fulfilling his promise to reign. Waiting is not easy but its very rewarding. In waiting we can be refreshed, renewed, and be taught. Wait upon the Lord, expect His mercy, salvation, and rescue.
